From a Catalan Manuscript

Francisco de Castellvi vs. Narciso Vinoles

Spain - c. 1485

This is the oldest surviving game of modern chess, played shortly after the modern rules were established in Italy, circa 1485. The game comes from a poem in a Catalan manuscript.

Now, why anybody would dispatch a poet to cover the Under 1400 Section of the Greater Catalan Open, I can't imagine.
