  • Denker's +14 score (matched by Reshevsky in 1946) is the largest winning score in US Championship history.

  • The tournament was held at the Park Central Hotel in New York.

  • The seeded players in this tournament were Adams, Denker, DiCamillo, Fine, Horowitz, Isaacs, Pinkus, Shainswit and Steiner. The other nine qualified from preliminary events.

  • Adams, DiCamillo and Shainswit took the places of Reshevsky, Kashdan and Santasiere. Reshevsky refused his invitation because he was taking CPA examinations the same month. Kashdan dropped out at the last minute on doctor's orders. Santasiere was unable to obtain a vacation from his teaching job. Fine's participation was uncertain until the last minute, when he obtained a 3 weeks leave from his government job.

  • Reshevsky attended several sessions of the tournament as a spectator, and was photographed examining the wallboards in Round 12.
