  • The Marshall Chess Club held an annual women's open tournament, that awarded the Hazel Allen trophy. As this tournament was sponsored by the National Chess Federation (the USCF was not founded until 1939), it became the first US Women's Championship.

  • Due to illness, Bain was unable to play her last round game with Weart, but for some reason it was scored as unplayed, rather than as a forfeit.

  • Davey withdrew due to illness with a 3-3 score, and forfeited her last three games. It is unknown which three these were.

  • In addition to the silver Hazel Allen Trophy, Rivero won a gold medal donated by Mr. H. M. Hartshorne. Second prize was a beauty kit donated by Mr. G. A. Pfeiffer.

  • Hazel Allen of Kew Gardens, Long Island, was one of the contestants in the 1936 tournament,

  • The first tournament in this series was won by Mrs. Marjorie L. Seaman. The second tournament, in 1936, was won by Rivero, with Bain and Weart tied for second. This 1937 edition was the third tournament in the series, and the first to be designated a Woman's Championship.
