This was also a World Championship Zonal.
As a result, Geller, Ilivitsky, Spassky, and Petrosian
qualified for the
1955 Gothenburg Interzonal.
Smyslov was already seeded into the
1956 Candidates Tournament,
and Botvinnik, as World Champion, was not eligible. Though he failed to
qualify here, Keres was already seeded into the Interzonal (as was David Bronstein,
who did not play here).
