Tom Lehrer

Tom Lehrer Song Lyrics (With Annotations)
by Graeme Cree

Here is a collection of song lyrics for all known Tom Lehrer songs, (accompanied when possible, with MIDI sound files).

Three Tom Lehrer albums, all recorded before a live audience, are available from Reprise records. All three are great albums, save in one respect. None of them include song lyrics as part of their liner notes, and so here we attempt to remedy, at least in part, that deplorable situation. This site presents lyrics and patter transcriptions for all 40 tracks included on these albums, and in addition, includes lyrics for several other stray Lehrer songs known to be at large.

There are at least three other known Tom Lehrer albums. The 1953 album, Songs by Tom Lehrer, contains studio recordings of all the songs from Tom Lehrer Revisited. The 1959 album More Songs by Tom Lehrer contains studio recordings of all the songs from An Evening (Wasted) With Tom Lehrer. Both of these albums are out of print, however, they are collectively available on the 1996 album Songs & More Songs by Tom Lehrer, currently available from Rhino Records. This album contains all of the tracks from the other two, along with 1960 orchestral recordings of four of the songs, and a 1996 recording of I Got it From Agnes.

For those who don't know, Tom Lehrer is a schoolteacher who enjoyed a career during the 1950's and 1960's as a satirical songwriter. If you've never heard him, he's very similar to Mark Russell, except that he's funny.
