Roger Collins and Elizabeth heard Joe's voice at the mausoleum.
Roger Collins and Elizabeth heard Joe's voice at the mausoleum.

SLIDE 14 (From Episode 614; Broadcast 10/31/1968)

Roger Collins, hoping to talk Elizabeth out of her obsessive determination to build a new, "safe" mausoleum, went with her to the family crypt. Sounds they heard there, interpreted by Elizabeth as spirit voices, turned out to come from Joe, who had come there, weak and terrified, to hide after his assault on Barnabas. Roger, after calming his hysterical companion, carried Joe back to the house.

NOTES:

  • Roger Collins, hoping to talk Elizabeth out of her obsessive determination to build a new, "safe" mausoleum, -- We can send a rocket round the moon but we can't make a safe mausoleum? Don't give me that!

  • ...went with her to the family crypt. -- Why? To show her that nobody there was complaining? It seems like an odd way to talk her out of it, otherwise. The answer here is one you've heard many times already. There was actually a different reason for them to be there in the show, but Viewmaster didn't have the space to tell us about it.

  • Sounds they heard there, interpreted by Elizabeth as spirit voices, turned out to come from Joe... -- As natural a mistake as this seems (pauses a moment to let the absurdity sink in), this did not in fact happen on the show.

  • Roger, after calming his hysterical companion... -- We're just lucky Viewmaster didn't have the space to say that he slapped her around, screaming "Snap out of it!!" I wouldn't put it past them.

  • You know better by now, I take it, than to ask who Roger Collins is, or how he fits into the story.
