Enterprise crewmen are beamed aboard the Exeter.

Transporters, a development of the early 21-st century, operated on simple mass-energy-mass conversions. Use of a transporter was limited to distances of 16,000 miles.

Enterprise's trans-control officer "beamed" the party of four aboard Exeter at the speed of light.

NOTES:

  • The Viewmaster picture is a close up of the transporter chamber. The transporter officer is not visible, and we can only see the sleeve of Raintree... er, Galloway.

  • The transporter limit of 16,000 miles is something from the Story Bible, that was never mentioned in any episodes of the show.

  • The idea that transporters were invented in the 21st century is also something Viewmaster added, which was never mentioned in the show. The idea that it works on "simple" mass energy conversions is a cute little bit of hubris.
